The Acer: balance, and a genuinely good screen
The Nitro V 16S AI pairs an 85W RTX 5060 with a 16-inch 1920×1200 IPS panel running up to 180Hz. Two things there matter more than they look.
- 85W is a stated, respectable power limit. Many thin machines run the same card far lower. Knowing the number is itself useful, because most manufacturers bury it.
- 1920×1200 is taller than 1080p. That extra vertical space is real estate for documents, code and spreadsheets, not just games.
Acer positions this as well balanced if you are going to use one laptop for gaming, work and school, and the specification supports that claim rather than contradicting it.
The MSI: processor first
The Katana 15 HX uses an Intel HX-class processor — the desktop-derived line, not the usual mobile parts — with RTX 5050 or RTX 5060 options. It delivers strong 1080p and 1200p performance, and the HX chip gives it headroom in anything that loads the CPU rather than the graphics.
That matters for compiling, video encoding, simulation and streaming while you play. It matters much less for gaming alone, where the graphics card sets the ceiling.
The configuration trap on the MSI
Because the Katana ships with either an RTX 5050 or an RTX 5060, two laptops with the same name perform very differently. The 5050 is the entry tier; the 5060 is the one worth having. Check the exact graphics part before buying, not the model name.
How to choose
If gaming is the point and the laptop also has to be your study or work machine, the Acer’s taller screen and stated 85W make it the more predictable buy. If you compile code, edit video or stream, the HX processor in the Katana is worth the trade — provided you buy the RTX 5060 configuration.
