Pick two dates. Switch to weekdays only to skip Saturdays and Sundays.

Working days

The weekday count excludes Saturday and Sunday but not public holidays, which differ by country and sometimes by region. If you are calculating a contractual deadline, check whether the contract means calendar days or business days — they are rarely the same, and the difference compounds over a long period.

Counting conventions

This counts the days between the two dates, not including the start date. If you need an inclusive count — for example, how many days a hotel booking covers — add one.

How this is worked out

The count is exclusive of the start date: from the 1st to the 8th is seven days. If you need an inclusive count — the number of days a booking covers, for instance — add one.

Common questions

Does the weekday count skip public holidays?

No, only Saturdays and Sundays. Holidays differ by country and region, so subtract them yourself.

Does it include the start and end date?

It counts the days between them, excluding the start date. Add one for an inclusive count.
